Living Room Conversations in School

The National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM) and Living Room Conversations (LRC) have deep experience working with communities to build connection, engage trusted voices, and develop positive changes. They co-created a School Community Toolbox (currently in a pilot phase) designed for community anchored organizations led by trusted voices with skills in conflict resolution, restorative facilitation, and community dialogues.

If you see the need for better connectivity and constructive conversation in your school community, we have tips and resources to help you make a difference right now.

We are on a mission to help the next generation of students develop dialogue skills to participate thoughtfully in our 21st-century democracy.

Living Room Conversations has been hard at work with the team at Mismatch to bring you and your students a video-conferencing platform that is purpose-built for civil discourse. Watch the video to your left to learn more or click here to visit the Mismatch website for the most up-to-date information.

With Mismatch you will be able to:

  • Browse a list of curated mismatches based on your classroom profile
  • Connect with the classroom teacher to easily schedule a conversation between students
  • Hold real-time, structured video conversations using a dialogue guide from our library

The platform is entirely browser-based and protects students’ privacy by collecting registration details only at a classroom level, not from individual students.

Our youth interns and youth council have been hard at work creating Teen Talks. Teen Talks is an adaptation of our original Living Room Conversations guides for today’s teens.

The National Week of Conversation hosted a panel discussion where distinguished professionals, including our own Becca Kearl, described how to develop bridge-building skills and dispositions that equipped students to collaborate across different perspectives. Learn how you can enhance your work to the next level!
