During this time of year, the staff at Living Room Conversations often receives requests from people seeking guidance and tips about how to talk with their family and friends about politics.
Many people feel anxious about the possibility of someone getting upset or jeopardizing a relationship if someone, including themselves, brings up a political topic. With family and friends, the emotional stakes are high.
A few years ago, we responded by creating this popular Friends and Family Conversation Tip Sheet.
This year, on Monday, November 18th from 6:30-7:30 pm Eastern / 3:30-4:30pm Pacific, we are taking things one step further: we are offering a special live training called A Holiday Recipe for Talking Politics with Friends & Family. You can sign up for it here!
This one-hour training includes:
- When to engage (and not engage) with people
- How to set the stage (or table) for a good conversation
- Asking questions, listening and learning
- Showing respect
- Managing your emotions
While most of the training provides our tips, we have also included time for you to share what concerns you in small breakout rooms. After the training, you will have the opportunity to return to these breakout rooms with your host to explore ways to apply the training in your situation.
We hope to see many of you there!
